These photographs were taken in New Orleans two years ago while volunteering at Camp Hope, the volunteer base camp for those participating in the Hurricane Katrina recovery efforts. They represent the rich and robust spirit of the city. New Orleans is earthy, sensual, and very much alive; and it’s teeming with culture, resilience, and originality. Such a conglomeration of traits inevitably becomes ingrained and interwoven into the fabric of its citizens, and such a melting pot of people and backgrounds infuses the city with a certain spirit that can be found no where else.
New Orleans has a soul of its own. It breathes and exists through the lives of its inhabitants. My photos are meant to portray the strength and vitality of that spirit.
